Welcome travelers!
Please, do not stand at the door, enter my little world.
My name is Giulia: born and raised in Versilia (Tuscany), cradled by the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Apuan Alps to the east, I have always felt lucky to have come across this wonderful valley.
We are one of the few happy islands where Tuscan bread has a thick crust and salt!
We have fresh fish from Viareggio and mountain meats from Lunigiana.
In my municipality, Pietrasanta, artists from all over the world come to work thanks to our excellent art foundries.
In the Versiliana, a forest of maritime pines, Gabriele d’Annunzio walked on horseback and on the beach in winter every now and then Andrea Bocelli rides a horse.
With these premises, perhaps my love for many forms of culture is not so unlikely: literature, art galleries, photography and so on and so forth.
When I travel, I try to discover these sides even in the places I visit.
In recent years I feel very changed in my relationship with travel, initially I was so thirsty for everything that you had to literally run from one monument to another.
I had to see everything, and I mean everything.
Now I think there is a deeper nature that lies behind every city, a breath typical of every land that only an eye and an attentive ear can perceive.
I believe that it is important in life to know how to laugh at oneself, at our quirks and eccentricities; that’s why every now and then I like to take myself little seriously.
Among my main interests there is certainly the kitchen; I love cooking and eating so I always try to taste all the typical dishes when I travel.
I love looking for small places, maybe little known or with some eccentricity in the dishes or in the places themselves.
I don’t like to spend too much time in restaurants and I want to pay the right for what I’m offered, so you won’t find luxurious places on my blog, you’re much more likely to find out all about street food and shacks.
I am an animal lover, but this did not make me become a vegetarian, I would have gone into conflict with my passion for cooking.
I believe that the food industry must be revolutionized, not only by reducing the consumption of certain foods but by teaching people to eat mindfully.
Having said that I love my two little beasts (Gigno and Sofia) and I always run to any animal I meet, for now it has always gone well (I have not run in front of a tiger or anything like that).
My side “Masterchef” is flanked by that of the artist, in my free time I try to free creativity by painting or creating small terracotta statues.
I deeply believe in the liberating power that art brings with it, it has the ability to relax and rebalance me, it also allows me to express what I feel in that moment, the beautiful and the ugly in equal measure.
You think that’s all but my interests do not end here, in addition to art, food and animals I love to read.
Since I was a child, starting with Rat-Man, I have read comics and manga; now I attend the Lucca Comics & Games fair annually chasing the artists I love the most.
All these wonderful adventures were possible thanks to my travel and life partner, Matteo.
Thanks to him I started to discover the world, when I was sick because of panic attacks he helped me to face the fears that prevented me from traveling and together we form an unstoppable team.
I am the complusive planner, who plans every single stage of the journey; he is the driver in “on the road” trips and the problem solver, we complete ourselves in this way.
The activity we love most, in addition to traveling, is walking.
We discovered that we both love hiking, because it takes us where no other means can reach, only our legs can.
In the mountains we find peace, we distance ourselves from the chaotic world in which we live, far from the media and the daily routine.
The last very important thing for me are cultures different from mine: like Japan and Africa.
Over time I developed a love/obsession with African kimonos and masks.
Putting aside the savings I bought myself two kimonos that I hope to be able to wear when I manage to make a trip to Japan.
I also took several masks, none really ancient as they have prohibitive prices, but I am happy with my choices that range through different tribes.
You will find a section of my blog dedicated to them.
I hope I’ve told you something about me.
It would be simplistic to say that I like to travel, there is much more: a deep desire to broaden horizons, to enrich one’s life, to confront the unknown.
Each of us is the sum of infinite parts; an enigma for others, sometimes even for himself.
With each new experience we discover a piece and with time, building and destroying ourselves, we learn to read each other.
Finally, I thank my wonderful family, without them I would not exist, without their love and patience I would not be what I am, simply ME.
